One of the unfortunate hallmarks of affordable Windows-based tablets is limited storage space. It is not uncommon for low-priced tablets to come with only 32GB or 64GB drives.

A large chunk of that space is taken up by the Windows operating system and any preinstalled applications.

A forgotten Windows password isn’t the end of the world. You don’t have to trash the computer, or even perform a dreaded factory restore.

There are many ways to remove or reset a Windows password, but how quickly and easily it can be done depends on the situation.

When some users set up Microsoft Word the way they like. Then, suddenly, everything went back to the default settings. Can they get their old settings back? Or at least protect them in the future?

Microsoft Word is a wonderfully configurable tool. You can set a default font and give every new document your preferred margins.

The creators of TrueCrypt shocked the computer security world this week when they seemingly ended development of the popular open source encryption tool.

Even more surprising, the creators said TrueCrypt could be insecure and that Windows users should migrate to Microsoft's BitLocker.

Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP in April, but a simple registry hack lets users continue to get security updates.

The hack, as reported by ZDNet, fools Microsoft into thinking the system is running Windows Embedded POSReady 2009, a variant of XP that's used by ATMs and cash registers. Those systems will keep getting security updates until 2019.

Microsoft is looking for someone to work on the next-gen Cortana.

CNET spotted a job listing on Microsoft's Careers site that's looking for a software development engineer to help develop the next generation of Microsoft's Digital Assistant, Cortana. This person will be a part of the Cortana team, and will help "redefine the personalization experience on Windows" and "push the frontier."
